Chapter after chapter appears right after another without even a line break, let alone a page break. Impossible to read for relaxation. Makes your eye hurt.

An essay written in the late 1920s about women's writing. Why wasn't Shakespeare a woman? Why did Jane Austen hide her manuscripts from guests? What makes good writing? What makes women's writing? Are a woman's sentences different from a man's sentences?This book is witty, from the first moment when the author tries to cross the lawn of an Oxbridge college and is stopped by a beadle because only the fellows and scholars (all male) are allowed here. Later she notes wryly that the few women's colleges have no such beadle, and none of the endowments of the men's colleges.What a woman needs in order to write is a room of one's own and five hundred pounds a year.When she wrote, women had only had the vote in Britain for less than a decade, and married women had only been allowed to own their own property for a bare forty years. Women's education is no longer the issue it was when the book was written and it is much easier today for a woman to be independent. Still, A Room of One's Own remains an entertaining read and the issues it raises are by no means resolved.

100 years later, she still inspires great insights into the common heritage of women. In eloquent, often poetic language, mrs Woolf makes us see the world through the eyes of Shakespeare's sister. She makes us see how women's toil has barred women from participating in the learned world. We shall not excuse ourselves for producing our offspring, but with modernity comes the responsibility to seize the opportunity to be educated, writing, productive citizens in more than one way. We shall not let ourselves be ignored or set aside, because our experiences are no less important than those of men. And our experience is the source of a different writing than that of men. Few women in Western countries are now dissuaded from having an artistic career. The women’s movement has, so to speak, moved on to demands like equal pay.So I’ll merely point out one perspective which may have been overlooked by some readers. That is, that Woolf’s cause is completely centered around the problems of first world women. Basically, Woolf argues that women do not have the access to the wealth or education that men have and, as a result, have not produced an artistic genius like Shakespeare. Fair enough. But how many women in the period following the First World War were concerned about having an outlet for their creativity? Were not women in many parts of the world so bereft of even their natural human rights so as not to over worry about outlets for creativity?For all its indisputable genius, A Room of One’s Own then may arguably be charged with a mixed legacy. Yes, it highlighted the need for privileged women to be equals of men in their access to the fonts of creativity. But it also may have tended to direct feminism to a first world perspective leaving out the voices of billions of women who Woolf, for all her literary aplomb, does not seem overly concerned about, at least in this work.Literary classic? Undoubtedly. Mixed effect on the direction of twentieth century feminism? A distinct possibility.

I always forget how great Virginia Woolf's writing is. This is an essay noting the absence of women's writing voices throughout history and she makes note that women need a room of their own (which throughout history they have not had being forced to write in common rooms when they wrote) and independent means (which until very recent history women's income was claimed by their husband). Her point being that women need independence if they are to have an independent writing voice.

One of the best books I read in 2016.She should be one of the most humorous women in Britain at her time. It was supposed to be a speech. Putting a lot of discursive aside, her speech started with Women and Fiction and what she had experienced and what had inspired her about the topic she supposedly gave speech to Newham Girls College. Here main theme, "numerous generations of unsung unnoticed unjusted women paved the way for what women at her era could attain was remarkable, and the girls should fight and stand on their corpses' and souls' behalf", was so strong and so well versed.

This is the first I have ever read of Virginia Woolf. I found it a fascinating read. I came away learning new things and realizing women have felt inferior for a very long time. I hadn't realized this book is one of the beginnings of the feminist movement.

This book is not only an enjoyable and fairly quick read, but it is also an important milestone in not only feminist literature, but literature as a whole. Woolf's amusing and sharp assessments of the way men view women to be inferior, particularly in skill and intellegence, is (at least somewhat) relevent even today. She rightfully stresses the importance of every woman having both a room and money of her own. Without those two things, she can not be truely independant. A must for any lover of feminism or for anyone with a taste for short, smart books.

As a chronic insomniac, I was excited to read something that might offer new solutions. So I took the test and came out as a Dolphin, which seemed a perfect fit at first, since I am high strung and stay up at nights ruminating. But when I read further, lots of the what he said about dolphin didn't fit at all. I love to eat, for example (I've never forgotten a meal in my life, and sure wish I had that wiry thin body he talked about!). And far from getting a burst of evening energy, I generally feel so exhausted after 8pm I can barely string words together. So I seem to be hungry like a bear, high-strung like a dolphin, and rise early like a lion. What the heck am I? A Dol-bear-ion?I had hoped buying the book would clear up for me what type I am, but it only further confounded me. And the advice for each type is wildly conflicting. Should I exercise in the morning like a Dolphin, or save it for afternoon, like a Lion, to give me more evening pep? Should I force myself to stay up till midnight (which would probably make me ill, is my guess), or go to bed with the sun? The advice conflicts so much that it only works if you fit neatly into one group or another.This book clearly seems to be working for lots of people, but I'd recommend taking the online quiz before you buy it, and then reading through the descriptions of each of the types, first. If you find yourself to be a hybrid like me, you might as well skip the purchase and save your money.EDITED TO ADD:After finishing the book, there are a few pieces of advice that apply to any chronotype, that I wanted to share for those who feel, like me, that they don't fit into a specific type:The first is to delay coffee until a couple of hours after awakening. According to the author, drinking caffeine immediately upon waking is a waste. For all types it's better to wait until you get an energy lull closer to mid-morning. On the other hand, no type should drink caffeine within eight hours of wanting to go to sleep, so don't wait too long. And limit yourself to one or two cups a day.Second, no type should sleep in on the weekends. He's very firm about this. For all types, it's better to lose a bit of sleep on the weekends (if you're staying out late and socializing) then to sleep in and wind up with "social jetlag" which will throw off your entire week. The most anyone should sleep in is an extra 30-45 minutes.Finally, for all types, use sunshine, exercise, protein, and cold showers when you want to wake yourself up or give yourself some extra pep. Then use warm baths, meditation, stretching, and carbs when you want the opposite, to be winding down and preparing for sleep. So, if you have trouble waking up in the morning, start out with some push ups (or whatever) followed by a cold shower, a walk outside, and a plate of eggs. If you get tired too early in the evenings and want to be able to stay up later, then use those things in the late afternoon. Conversely, if you are too alert in the evenings and have trouble falling asleep, then eat some carbs, stretch, meditate, and have a warm bath at or after dinner time.That advice all seems pretty sound to me and it's the advice I'm taking from the book and applying, despite feeling like I don't fit neatly into a chronotype. Very disappointed. I recently ordered 2 copies for gifts via Amazon, but found them to be of a very low-quality reprint - nothing like the copy that I had purchased in a bookstore several years ago. That original copy is a beautiful book, containing great information and absolutely gorgeous photography, brilliantly reproduced on high-quality, heavy-weight glossy pages. In these new Amazon copies, however, although the cover, content, and pictures remain the same, the pages have all been reproduced on low-quality, lightweight ordinary paper with all the images and text appearing in much-reduced resolution, color, and clarity. It almost appears as if the pages of the original were run through someone's low-res home scanner and the scan pages assembled into a poor likeness of the original book. Still good information, but a terrible shame given the high-quality and truly beautiful content of the original printing. Very disappointed, will not be giving as the intended gift and instead plan to return for refund.

Beware.....not available in print as Amazon advertised! So this was going to be a gift, but Amazon leaves the shopper high and dry at check out with message "not available". To Amazon......why list an item for sale, if you cannot deliver????? Very disappointing!

This is a great book to have and use for inspiration. It is hard to plan day trips in Hill Country simply because there is so much to see and so many beautiful places to visit. So it is helpful to have a collection of visuals to help decide where to go next. Beautiful photographs!

I orderded this book for my husband who is a keen motorcyclest, we were dissapointed at first as package arrived soaking wet as though dropped in a bucket of water. But as usual the folks at Amazon came through and replaced our package in the nick of time for fathers day. the book is very well written and has some wonderfull scenic photographs from all around Texas. You do not need to have a motorcycle to buy this book. it is a beautiful coffee table book and you can use it just as well for traveling by car or campervan.

We bought this book before we toured the "Hill Country". I already new my route and just used it to get a little more flavor for the areas that we traveled. Not a book for backroad travels because it is all on main roads. It was what we expected but does contain much more of the Hill Country than we realized. You will need to zero in on more info for areas as this book is just a general guide of the area. The pictures do portray the area that it represents and is like being there in person. Would purchase again if needed.

I bought directly from amazon and had no issues with the binding, unlike others who bought this volume in the past. It's a great series.

Like other reviewers stated, my copy also fell apart almost right out of the gate. Amazon replaced it immediately and the new one has held up just fine.

The cover was bent really badly. This I supposed to be a new book.

Though it seems to be about a series of sword battles in medieval Japan, this is striver philosophy at its best. When will the final Vizbig volume (Vol 11) be released??

Great story, however pages came unglued from book itself.

I would not reccommed buying the volume right right now. Apperantly there is a storage issue with the warehouse that is causing the glue from the spine to loosen making it hard for the pages to stick. This only happens when comic is in a hot and humid area. Don't worry its been reported and they are looking into it. I have bought other vagabond volumes 1 through 9 before and came in great condition. If you really want vol 10 go ahead, but I would wait about a month until they fix the storage issue.

On whether or not the copy you receive will be poorly made and not held together.Like other reviews stated, these vizbigs all apart during the first read (with my copy at least).I also had this issue with volume 2. The content itself, however is great as always. No complaints there. Get it together Amazon and Viz. I'm not here to buy faulty products.

The pages were not glued very well to the cover.

First of all, I am not an artist so I cannot offer any perspective on the value of this set in terms of artist quality. I bought it as an outlet for me and to help me relax and I must say it has done a great job. An ideal starter set for anyone who needs a creative outlet or just has some time to kill. I like this set because it gives you everything you need to get going: 48 pages (of varying quality) plus twelve two-sided pencils and a rudimentary sharpener. Nothing elaborate here but for the cost, its a great value. A few of the pages are printed in great detail and render very nicely if you take time and are patient. Other pages are of a simpler nature and are great if you just wants a quick scribble. I must say its gotten me hooked and I have already purchased more artist supplies.

This publisher has repeated delays (it was supposed to be released 11/1/2016, and finally was printed in January 2017), and the choice of pictures they are using lately in this and another of their new releases are sketchy and hard to color. I'm going to unsubscribe from their publications; their earlier releases were much better.

I would like to note the name is missleading color your way to calm this did not help my anxiety one bit i have a coloring book app that does wonders i wanted a real one and got two the other is very good but this one was almost irritating trying to decide what i can color how to etc etc i had to put so much extra thought into it it almost increased my anxiety attack with thatThe 12 two sided color pencils are what really makes this a deal for the price the booklet is cute not to small but should be bigger the hard flap for coloring makes it ideal for travel or my couch the paper quality is a bit thicker then printer paper the colors are nice you can press hard or do layers to build up the color only one option for skin tone though the main issue is that the images themselves are like a scratch drawing with a pen which makes it hard to color in my opinion however upon diving into one i like the way it looks as i go so if there was a stronger edit on the images choose with larger objects to fill in and less black it would be more enjoyable to color

It’s a great book! However it came slightly damaged. All four corners bent and twisted up, a few pages were actually torn at the ends, and some weird scratch marks on the back. I spoke with an amazon rep about getting a refund but still haven’t received it. All In all the book itself is very nice, wonderful pictures in it!

We checked this book out from our local library and my 6 year old son absolutely loves it. The pictures are quirky and the colors are fabulous! He keeps going back to the book to look at it and we have read it quite a few times just in the two days we've had it. What a great little book, I am so glad I noticed it on the shelf!

I read this book to all of my kids, but my daughter liked it better than my boys did. It's a corky, cute little tale, about a butterfly who thinks her beloved mouse friend has been eaten by a fish. Out of this comes a story that follows the same format as "There was an old lady who swallowed a Fly." This happened, then this happened, then this, etc. It's a zany little book, especially at the end. It has a happy ending. There are 26 actual pages, not counting the cover page and dedication page. There are 5 pages of full color illustrations included in the 26 pages. The illustrations are bright and lively. It's probably 1st grade level, maybe second. Young children who hear the book several times will be telling this story, I'm sure. I'm also sure they'll want to hear it again.

THE BEAUTIFUL BUTTERFLY IS A STORY ABOUT LIFE, FRIENDS, AND LOVE, BUT TOLD ON A LEVEL ANY CHILD WOULD UNDERSTAND. I BOUGHT THIS BOOK FOR MY FRIENDS NEW BABY GIRL. BUT FIRST I HAD TO READ AND READ AGAIN THIS WONDERFUL BOOK THAT WISHED ME BACK TO CHILDHOOD WHERE ALL DREAMS DO COME TRUE.
