If you've read about the difference between writers who create detailed outlines and writers who sit down and write by the seat of the pants AND you find yourself looking for a middle way, take a look at the snowflake method.I found my own work approach gravitates toward this technique. I'm not thoroughly wedded to it, since I tend to be eclectic in most approaches. I borrow what works for me, discard the rest. In this case, what works for me is the idea of frequently revisiting what I've written to make changes. My first draft is really my fourth or fifth revision for some scenes, my third or fourth for others, etc. My own mental demons will not allow me to just write a "vomit draft" or give me permission to just "write crap" with the intention to revise later. On the other hand, I can get a scene reasonably well-written and move along, fully expecting to come back a few times. Maybe more. And then rewrite even more after the first draft of the manuscript is finished.If you are not psychologically compelled to Robert Ludlum-like outlines before you start or to writing entirely by the seat of the pants, then I strongly recommend you take a look at the snowflake method.The only part of the book that got tiresome for me was the allegory throughout of nursery rhyme characters. There will doubtless be readers who think this is witty and enjoyable. Sorry, to me it was a long, self-conscious schtick.

I've used Randy's Snowflake Method before from his website (advancedfictionwriting.com) and while it gave me the best results of any creative paradigm I've tried, the instruction left me feeling a little glassy-eyed.This book is amazing. It is a hidden gem and I hope this review helps others give it a chance.There are three layers to this book - the first layer is that you get to read a novel about a girl who learns how to use the Snowflake method on her own story. You learn right along side Goldilocks without realizing you're learning. The examples she reviews with Baby Bear are just as good as if you went to a conference on your own.The second layer is seeing the application of the lessons. You realize through the story (for me it was about halfway through) that you are actually seeing a plot line unfold that has nothing to do with the World War II story Goldilocks is writing. You might even realize this is the real example Randy was trying to give, not the WWII romance.The third is the actual instruction - and let me say, this instruction was so much clearer than what was on the website. Maybe it's because of the first two layers... but I really feel like I learned so much more from this book than others.Writing books talk about writing like it's the driest thing in the world. Randy's book talks about writing and shows us, three times, that his method works.I don't know what type of writer you are. Maybe the Snowflake method doesn't work for you. But if you've ever read up on it and it sounded interesting, give this book a shot! It is well worth it.

If you have tried the outlining method and it didn't work for you and you tried the seat of the pants method, then this book is definitely for you.The book starts out as a story while teaching you the 10 steps to the Snowflake method. So you not only have an entertaining way to learn, but you also get solid examples.I love the new step 9(it differs from his website).This book takes the information learned from his website and demonstrates it using the story presented in the beginning of the book. I learned that I didn't fully understand the way it was supposed to work. I also found that I seemed to have been doing it right...I just haven't finished yet.I found that the main character had the same fears and doubts that I did. Exactly. It was as if Dr. Ingermanson could read my thoughts as I read.I found it extremely hard to put down. I just purchased this the day before yesterday and i finished it this morning.Great job!!!Update:After reading this book, I did all ten steps and in just two months and seven days after started my first draft, I finished it. It was 232 double-spaced using 12 Courier New Font. I am currently planning the next one...

This is a very good book on writing fiction. They say there are two kinds of writers: outliners and "pantsers" - people who write by the seat of their pants, without an outline. As a writer, I'm a pantser all the way. There's just this little problem. About half way through writing a novel, about 50,000 words in, I find myself stuck. I don't let this worry me anymore. I know it's going to happen and I know I'll work through it.The "Snowflake Method" is a way to write a novel as more of an outliner. It goes into helpful detail about developing characters, setting, dialog and plot. It gives you an outline/overview of what you need to figure out before (or in the middle) of a book. What I like about it is I can use as much of it as is helpful, and leave the rest alone. If you struggle to come up with enough ideas and details to write a whole book, The Snowflake Method just might be the answer to completing it.

After this book my awareness about how good Java code should look like improved a lot. I learned a lot of interesting and useful approaches to developing code in different situations. It was a nice lecture although some topics are more complicated and forced me to slow down and analyze paragraphs one by one. Overall, very helpful.

This is an amazing book which contains tons of good practical advice for programmers, but more importantly explains the "why" behind various things you've always heard. There are things I feel I understand after reading this book which I previously only "knew" on the level of a teacher saying "take my word for it."

I bought this as a supplement to his class and it has completely replaced it. He is ahead of everyone in his class as during his study halls he reads this book. He is quite pleased with it and wants to learn another programming language and we will definitely look at this publisher for that one too!

This book is capable of teaching anyone that really has the desire to learn. I like that it’s to the point without all the unnecessary jokes and story time. Too many books are filled with excess chat chit. Very easy to follow.

EVERNOTE shows you all you need to know, and then some.I liked this book a lot and found it very helpful but some of the apps that are suggested are no longer available. These are definitely things a "power user" would be after but I was annoyed that I spent significant time perusing the Play Store to find apps that aren't in the store anymore.This is an excellent guide to learning Evernote. After reading it, I feel prepared to start using it. I am confident that I can return to the book as a reference when needed.

Didn't like stories to explain. It didn't address "mastering evernote"!!

The 5th edition of this book is great. It's a great reference for both the hobbyist and Studio potter as well as the newbie.It's set up like a dictionary which makes finding information quick and easy. Although I've heard some remarks made about the lack of depth of knowledge with regards to some specific areas, I think that the knowledge imparted as good when one realizes that more than one specific area is being covered. There is adequate information provided for all areas covered. The book is well thought out and the easily understood and very well researched - and the information can be applied to both sides of the pond. It's a nice addition to my studio library and I would recommend it to anyone with an interest in pottery. I've enjoyed my copy and have no doubt that as more additions become available I'll keep updating.

This book is an excellent Q&A book. It provides detailed rationales and is outlined according to the SCRN certification study blueprint. The only drawback is that the app does not work as indicated on the book; however, access to questions on the computer is awesome, as you could sit and participate in a mock exam setting. Excellent book. Passed certification on the first try. Good add-on study accessory.

Product is a questions and answers based book - not a real "study guide." That being said, the questions and answers truly get you thinking. Passed my SCRN first time. Loved it.

The book had some relevant information but did not add anything to the official SCRN book. A lot of the practice questions were way off base and had information that you didn't need to know. There were also a few questions that had the wrong answer compared to the SCRN book and practice questions. I wouldn't waste my money on this book and stick to the official guide, which was spot on for the test.

Used this book along with "Fast Facts for Stroke Care Nursing" and a powerpoint a friend sent from a class. Also have 3 years in a Neuro/Stroke ICU Unit. Passed the SCRN on the first try. These books were good but definitely did not cover some of the specific info that was on the exam. However, I think adequate enough that a person could pass with just using only these two sources.

I bought the companion book with this, I used the App a bunch, I use my common sense, experience and previous education and I passed

Dont know, I didnt bite. THe book itself is helpful, but overpriced. Must be a college textbook publisher

This was a great book for my second grader. He had been wanting a bearded dragon book. After reading reviews on lots of different books, I was concerned that we would end up having to buy multiple books to find the right one for him. This book is setup in chapters, with plenty of reading and photos that a second grader likes. The reading level is definitely higher, but I can read it with him and help out. He can read a lot in the book with help on the bigger words and harder sentences. It also has lots of text boxes with extra information.Although an elementary level child can read this, I also enjoyed reading and getting the information for our bearded dragon. It provides plenty of information about juvenile and adult bearded dragons.This is not written as an all inclusive instructional book/manual on everything you need to care for a bearded dragon, but it does give a lot of the information you would need to know. Whether you are considering one, or already have one, this book is a good read and you will learn something from it.

Bought this for my 8 year old son who is considering getting a bearded dragon. He has read it cover to cover several times and learned so much about the bearded dragon. He is now using this book for a book report (3rd grade). It's very informative for him - as well as for me (his mom) in learning how we would need to care for one.

It has good info but not enough I was able to get more helpful info off a website online. It only gives you a list of veggies and plants for him eat well online I was able to find plants vegetables bags and fruits a full list and how to prepare them while in the book it doesn't quite give you that much information

However it is completely lacking anything on behavior, and for an animal so rich in personality and human interaction that is some vital information.All in all it Is a nice quick reference for safe foods and common medical issues so you dont have to search the Web, but its not as comprehensive as I would like.

I liked it, but had no response from the people who own the bearded dragon. Her name is Paprika, and though I dislike reptiles, she is actually very sweet, and more attentive than one would think.

My family plans to acquire a beardie sometime this year, and this book is an invaluable resource for first-time beardie owners. The information is clear, concise, and beautifully illustrated.
