Being diagnosed with well advanced Cirrhosis secondary to HCV (contracted through a blood transfusion in 1979, due to a farming accident leaving me a R/BK amputee at the age of 14) I was immediately referred to a Transplant Center after a routine surgery for the removal of my Gall Bladder when the cirrhosis was discovered. My Hepatologist started talking transplant right from the start, I had no clue what so ever about this. I only know that you are given a liver from a donor and it must match certain factors. I thank you for the time it took in writing this very informative insight for what is undoubtedly in store for myself. I have looked far and wide for memoirs written on this subject, and found that very few exists. Therefore yours was a very welcomed sight indeed.Thank you again,

This book is a true labor of love. Pam pours out her heart as she takes us on a roller coaster ride of emotions and shares the very personal struggle that happens when someone we love suddenly becomes ill. I could feel her struggle as she described the different phases and emotions she went through, as well as her frustration and helplessness with watching someone she loved experience uncontrolled pain. Her desire to let their donor family know that they appreciate the selfless gift they gave her family makes me cry every time I read the letters to them. If you are facing the situation of needing an organ donor, or if you struggle with not knowing if potential organ donation is the right option for you, this book will help you in making those decisions. As a nurse, I appreciate her honesty about knowing medical processes, but still being overwhelmed when it's happening to you. Her story about advocacy for our loved ones and ourselves is a must read. Thank you Pam for sharing your heart.
