Until this fellow came along in the 1400s it was thought that what we now know as the Americas was merely the eastern shore of Asia. I found this to be a good, short book with several relevant illustrations that included interesting facts such as the word "America" being the female form of "Amerigo" (making the Statue of Liberty centuries later a good choice for welcoming immigrants to our shores, I would say) , Vespucci being one of the first Europeans to see the Southern Cross in over a thousand years and his being such a talented navigator he could use the position of the stars to estimate the earth's circumference to within 50 miles (rather impressive for back then!) Very good book that I did enjoy!
my class did a project on explorers and i read this bookand i needed a book to read for the study and i chose this book.i got an A+!!!
This book summarizes the life of Amerigo Vespucci very well! Great illustrations too! The sections are well defined and it makes it easy to read.
Kids do not get this kind of cool at school. It was cool brushing up on the subject. Real n33t
